Police Evacuate Sonam Wangchuk to Hospital as CJP Protests Escalate at Jantar Mantar

National & International Politics

Early this morning, Delhi Police forcefully shifted climate activist Sonam Wangchuk from Jantar Mantar to Safdarjung Hospital on the 21st day of his indefinite hunger strike. Authorities cited a Delhi High Court order and medical advice regarding his deteriorating health, though his supporters and family alleged he was taken abruptly without their consent. The ongoing protests, spearheaded by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), have been demanding the resignation of the Union Education Minister over the nationwide NEET examination paper leak controversy.

Following the police action, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke announced he would take over the indefinite hunger strike to keep the movement alive. The situation at the protest site grew even more tense around noon when an unidentified woman threw an ink-like liquid at Dipke while he was addressing the crowd. Despite Wangchuk’s hospitalization, the CJP activists have declared that their planned protest march to Parliament on July 20 will proceed as scheduled.
