Tripura’s Director General of Police (DGP), Anurag Dhankar, was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside his office bathroom at the state Police Headquarters in Agartala today. The 1994-batch IPS officer was immediately rushed to the GB Pant Hospital, where senior medical staff declared him brought dead. Chief Minister Manik Saha, along with the Chief Secretary and other top officials, quickly visited the hospital following the shocking news.
While preliminary reports suspect it could be a case of suicide, authorities have stated that the exact cause of death will only be determined once the post-mortem examination is completed. A thorough investigation has been launched by forensic teams into the sudden demise of the highly decorated officer, who assumed the role of Tripura’s police chief in May 2025.
