The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) announced that public darshan of the Holy Trinity at the Gundicha Temple will remain suspended for six hours today, from 9 PM to 3 AM. This temporary closure is necessary to perform the sacred “Banakalagi” or “Srimukha Sringara” ritual, during which the faces of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra are painted afresh using traditional herbal colours, musk, and camphor.
Following their grand arrival at the Gundicha Temple and seating upon the Adapa Mandap, this deeply symbolic restoration ritual marks a crucial part of the Rath Yatra traditions. Devotees are advised to plan their visits accordingly, as the temple will be strictly out of bounds immediately after the completion of the second Bhoga Mandapa offering tonight.
