Cuttack, 5/1 : Odisha Police have apprehended two more individuals in connection with the sensational Choudwar double murder case, bringing the total number of arrests to five. The new arrests were made on Monday, as investigators intensify their efforts to unravel the full extent of the brutal crime that shook the Choudwar area.
According to information provided by the Choudwar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), the recently arrested accused have been identified as Swapneswar Mahant and Surjyamani Muduli. Mahant was apprehended from the Sukinda area, while Muduli was taken into custody from the Narasinghpur area. These arrests follow the initial apprehension of three suspects earlier in the investigation.
The double murder came to light on December 31, 2025, when the bodies of two youths, identified as 21-year-old Md Soheb of Teruan village and 24-year-old Prasant Kumar Jena from the Jatrapadia locality of Choudwar, were discovered inside the Om Namah Narayani Garage. The garage, located near the Nergundi Junction Railway Station in the Choudwar area of Cuttack district, became the focal point of the investigation. Both victims reportedly sustained severe injuries, indicating a brutal assault.
Initial police investigations suggest that the murders occurred on the night of December 30, 2025 (Tuesday). The FIR regarding the incident was lodged by Abdul Muslim Khan, the maternal uncle of one of the deceased, Md Soheb. Police suspect that the victims may have been mistaken for thieves following previous theft incidents at the garage. It is alleged that the accused tied the two young men to poles and subjected them to a brutal assault, ultimately leading to their deaths.
Previously, police had arrested three individuals identified as Dillip Kumar Nayak, the owner of the garage, Gyan Ranjan Mahanty, and Mithun Kumar Singh alias Baula, who were associated with the establishment. With these latest arrests, police officials express confidence in making further progress in the case and bringing all perpetrators to justice. The investigation is ongoing to establish the precise motive and the roles of all individuals involved in this heinous crime.
