In a massive crackdown on cyber fraud targeting pilgrims, the Odisha CID’s Cyber Crime Unit has successfully blocked 121 fake hotel booking websites and 33 fraudulent webpages linked to the Puri Rath Yatra. The preventive drive aimed to protect lakhs of devotees visiting the pilgrim city from online scams involving fake accommodations, bogus transport services, and misleading VIP darshan offers.
Fraudsters reportedly set up convincing replica portals that mirrored genuine hotel sites, luring unsuspecting visitors with unrealistically low tariffs and insisting on full advance payments via UPI. By maintaining continuous digital surveillance, authorities also blocked nearly 900 mobile numbers and IMEIs associated with these rackets. Police have strongly advised devotees to thoroughly verify booking portals and immediately report any suspicious cyber activity to the National Cyber Helpline 1930.
