Senior BJP leader and five-time Member of Parliament Pralhad Joshi officially assumed charge as the Union Minister of Education at Kartavya Bhavan in New Delhi today. Joshi takes over the crucial ministry following the sudden resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, who stepped down yesterday amid sustained student protests nationwide over the NEET-UG paper leak controversy. Joshi will handle the Education Ministry as an additional charge while continuing to manage his existing portfolios of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and New and Renewable Energy.
Immediately after taking charge, Joshi chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess the implementation of key schemes and the National Education Policy. The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary and senior ministry officials, including Higher Education Secretary Dr. Vineet Joshi. As the new Education Minister, Joshi faces the immediate and monumental challenge of restoring public confidence in the national examination system and streamlining the operations of the National Testing Agency (NTA).
