Opposition Leader Naveen Patnaik Demands Health Minister’s Resignation Over SCB Medical Fire Incident

Bhubaneswar: In the wake of the fire incident at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik has demanded the resignation of the State Health Minister.

Patnaik stated, “During our government, when a fire incident occurred at a private hospital, the then Health Minister had resigned taking moral responsibility. Therefore, the current Health Minister should also resign following today’s incident.”

Meanwhile, the Opposition raised the SCB fire incident in the State Legislative Assembly. Amidst heated arguments and uproar, the Speaker adjourned the House till 4 PM. The Question Hour for various departments was scheduled for today’s session.

CM Forms 6-Member Fact-Finding Team

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has constituted a fact-finding team to investigate the SCB Medical College fire incident in Cuttack. A six-member committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the Development Commissioner.

The team will investigate the cause of the fire. The committee members include:

  • Inspector General of Fire Services
  • Engineer-in-Chief (EIC)
  • EIC of Urban Public Health Department
  • Chief Engineer (Buildings)
  • Director of Medical Education and Training

The committee will visit SCB Medical College and Hospital to conduct an on-site inspection and submit its report to the Chief Secretary by evening.

This incident has sparked a major political controversy, with the Opposition demanding accountability from the state government regarding safety measures at government medical institutions.
