Congress Takes Major Disciplinary Action: Suspends 3 MLAs for Cross-Voting in Rajya Sabha Election

English Politics State

Bhubaneswar: In a significant disciplinary action, the Congress party has suspended three of its MLAs. The suspended legislators are Sanakhemundi MLA Ramesh Jena, Mohana MLA Dasarathi Gamang, and Barabati-Cuttack MLA Sofia Firdous.

The three MLAs have been suspended for alleged anti-party activities during the Rajya Sabha election. Yesterday, allegations emerged that these legislators had indulged in cross-voting. They reportedly violated the party whip and cast their votes in favour of the BJP-supported candidate.

The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) has taken this stern action against the three MLAs for breaching party discipline. There are also indications that the party may move to disqualify the membership of these three suspended legislators.

This development comes as a major blow to the Congress party in Odisha, which is already grappling with internal challenges. The suspension sends a strong message about the party’s zero-tolerance policy towards indiscipline and cross-voting, particularly in crucial elections like the Rajya Sabha polls.

The action against these MLAs is expected to have significant political ramifications in their respective constituencies and within the state’s political landscape.
