Rourkela: An exchange of fire took place between security personnel and Maoists early this morning in the Saranda forest along the Odisha–Jharkhand border. Two Maoists were reportedly killed in the encounter with the security forces. While some other Maoists are believed to have been injured, search operations are continuing in the forest area.
After receiving information about Maoist movement between Samtha and Kiriburu in the Saranda forest, personnel of the CRPF, CoBRA, and Jaguar forces launched a search operation. Security forces and Maoists came face to face between Samtha and Kiriburu. An exchange of fire continued for some time between both sides. Unable to withstand the counteraction by the security forces, the Maoists fled. During the search operation, the bodies of two Maoists were recovered. Search operations are continuing in the Saranda forest.
